Why Is My Arlo Camera Not Connecting to My Device?

Smart Home DeviceNovember 23, 2022

Is your Arlo Camera not connecting to your device? Have you ever gone to view your Arlo security camera footage only to be greeted with the dreaded “Connection Error” message? If so, you’re not alone.

It’s frustrating to know that the wireless security camera you’ve invested in and trusted to protect your home suddenly stops working. You may be worried that something may happen at the crucial moments when it’s supposed to guard your home.

In this blog post, we’ll look at some of the most common reasons for connection errors and what you can do to fix them.

How To Fix Arlo Camera’s Connection Error

1. Check your internet connection.

The first thing you’ll want to do is check your home’s internet connection. If you’re getting a connection error, it could be due to a weak or intermittent internet signal. To fix this, try restarting your router or modem. You can also try connecting your camera to a different wifi network to see if that makes a difference.

The Arlo Camera only works with a 2.4 GHz WiFi network. It won’t work with a 5 GHz band. You must connect your phone and camera to the 2.4 GHz band for the camera to work. Also, check that the login details for the WiFi network are correct. The network SSID and password are case sensitive, so you need to type the EXACT details.

Lastly, ensure that the camera is within the range of the WiFi router. It must be within 10-15 feet of the router so that it connects to the Internet properly. If you’re using the Arlo Go Series, the SIM card must be activated and within the range of a mobile network.

By the way, check that your phone is not accessing the camera feed through a VPN. If it is, then disable the VPN first

2. Check The Status Of Your Arlo Pro Smart Hub.

If you have more than one Arlo camera, they’re likely connected to the internet through the Arlo Pro Smart Hub. The hub typically need to be plugged into an Ethernet port on your router for the cameras to connect to them.

If the lights on your base station are off or flashing amber, that could indicate a problem with the base station itself. In this case, you’ll want to contact Arlo support for help troubleshooting the issue.

3. Update Your Arlo App.

If you’re using an older version of the Arlo app, that could be causing problems with connecting your camera. Ensure you have the latest version of the app installed on your device, then try connecting again.
